“When all the other animals, downcast looked upon the earth, Prometheus gave a face raised on high to man, and commanded him to see the sky and raise his high eyes to the stars.”
Features and design philosophy
We designed the Prometheus very much from a musicians perspective:
It's loud, lightweight and is designed to be highly flexible in sound while always retaining a unique voice: while the clean channel is inspired by Fender, Verellen and a bit of Hiwatt the Lead channel has a unique growl and saturation to it and can cover everything from classic rock to sludge and from black metal to ultra modern metal. We paid particular attention to the voicing of the the mid-range which is present and cutting but never overbearing and placed at a slightly different range than you'd usually see on high gain amps: due to this it's really easy to place in a mix where a lot of other amps sit in the same frequency spectrum. I'll add a full list of features and please bear with me on the descriptions: I'm trying not to throw all the buzz-words at you but also don't want to get too technical - ask away if there's open questions!
- 100-200W depending on the choice of power tubes
- 2 1/2 channels: clean & lead with different voicings and a high/low-gain option for the lead-channel
- full-tube design: no solid state components in the amps signal path
- preamp-bypass for use with preamps or pedals straight to poweramp (footswitchable & MIDI-controllable)
- full built-in Key & Gate: triggered from the input, placed before the loop (footswitchable & MIDI-controllable)
- tube-buffered fx-loop
- full MIDI-control with really intuitive setup and "thru"-connector
- standard footswitch inputs (channel/loop) & (defeat/gate)
- optional Prometheus footswitch: programmable, 9V-out (included for pre-orders)
- external bias-points for tube pairs (mix and match all octal tubes to your liking)
- 9V-outlet on the back to power your pedals
- lightweight and compact design
- milled side-handles for easy transportation
- Lichtlaerm-proprietary "cut"-control to change the overall response of the lead-channel: Black Sabbath to Meshuggah and G'nR to Behemoth
- high headroom clean-channel with two voices: warm (extremely pedal-friendly, based on a Verellen Meatsmoke) and brilliant (a chimey clean based on a Fender Twin with a little Hiwatt sprinkle)
- custom-made potentiometer for usable range on depth & presence pots
- line-out fed from the output transformer (external load or cab needed!)
- handmade in Germany, custom overwound transformers, custom-made knobs
- 19"-mountable with optional adapter
- customizable looks
Custom options
We're trying to keep as many features of the amp customizable: different tolex-options, different wood-stains, different knobs and most notably different poweramp designs and due to power tube choice also different wattages.
Our standard visual design will look a bit differently from the prototype you've probably seen but will still be in the same style:
- dark walnut or black wood stain
- black/gold front&back faceplate and logo
- vintage Marshall Levant style tolex
This combinations were the one that positively stood out the most after trying almost 50 different ones but we're happy to offer different tolex & stain combinations.
There will also be options that come with an upcharge - we'll discuss the exact amount directly:
- high gloss finish for the wood
- fully stained headshell, no tolex
- all the crazy ideas that some of you already reached out with!
Power Tubes & prices
As you know we'll offer different tube combinations for the power amp that will change the price, wattage and sound. I'll start with descriptions of the tubes we offer and prices for the different descriptions. The amp changes it's character more drastically depending on power tubes than with a lot of other high gain amps: you'll feel the sound characteristics of the tubes as well as a substantial change in tube recovery (important for transients like palm muting) and headroom - especially in lower frequencies. We use TAD RedBase if available and if not JJ-tubes only:
- EL34: classic british character, mid-heavy, tight bass response (25W)
- 6L6G: big, round bass and sparkling highs (30W)
- KT88: great tube but comes at a high price! Fast recovery, deepest bass and most detailed highs with a 3D-sound and HiFi-feeling to it and immense power (46W)
Our standard combinations are:
4x EL34: 2699€
2x EL34 / 2x KT88: 2799€
2x 6L6 / 2x KT88: 2809€
Please be aware that the button will only sign you up for the waitlist and you’ll get an email whenever we start a new batch - final prices may vary based on custom options and tube configuration. Do not place an order if you’re not sure you want the amps: the down payments are non-refundable!
Also these are custom-made items, so there’s no option for returns.
